Sustainability

From a trend, to a strategy, to an economic factor.

True to the motto “Reuse, Reduce, Recycle”, companies succeed in making the world a little more sustainable every day:

Reality Check:
  • Reduction of CO2 emissions through efficient processes

  • Use of renewable resources and energy

  • Product life cycle extension and recycling

  • Innovative thinking and inclusion to realize our full potential without wasting valuable resources

The textile sector was the third largest source of water pollution and land use in 2020, contributing to the overconsumption of resources and the emission of greenhouse gases and waste.
On average, a piece of clothing is worn four times before it is thrown away.
The production of one cotton T-shirt requires about as much water as a person drinks in 2.5 years.
35% of the primary microplastics that enter the environment come from washing synthetic textiles.
More than 14 million tons of microplastics have already reached the bottom of the ocean in this way.
The average European buys almost 26 kg of textiles every year and throws away 11 kg of them. 87% of old clothes are burned or end up in landfills.

At Weissengruber-Textil we always strive for the highest quality and fair treatment of each other, our customers and suppliers and of course our environment. We have been pursuing many certifications for years, others are currently being developed. We have been ahead of the current state of requirements for decades.

With our current project, the Green Button, we are taking further necessary steps towards a more sustainable society.

Our certificates

Global Organic Textile Standard

The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is a globally applied textile processing standard for organic fibers. The GOTS certification covers the entire textile supply chain and extends from processing to trading. For this purpose, on-site inspections are carried out annually.

Our products only receive the label if all companies involved in the supply chain pass inspections and meet the social and quality criteria. Social criteria include ethical business conduct, responsible practices, protecting the health and rights of employees.

The GOTS logo guarantees the use of organic fibers and that only environmentally friendly, tested chemicals are used, and of course the environmentally and socially responsible production of the textile.

SMETA (Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit)

This includes, among other things, fair pay for workers, the prevention of child labor, transparency, as well as gender and diversity. Together we ensure the continuous improvement of our processes in social and economic terms.
